FIESTA: An Earth-friendly Lawn Weed Killer?
Is this new lawn weed killer safe?
Lauded as the “holy grail of natural gardening* ”, FIESTA lawn weed killer is the crowning achievement of 11 years of intensive laboratory testing and research by Neudorff North America. This odourless bio-rational selective weed killer contains the active ingredient Iron HEDTA, which is quickly ingested by weeds in fatal doses, causing rapid withering and death at the root level. Moreover, trial research [PDF} shows that FIESTA significantly outperforms other traditional lawn weed killers such as Duplosan, 2,4-D, and Killex in both effectiveness and speed, especially at cooler temperatures. But is it safe?
The good news for lawn and turf growers is that FIESTA doesn`t harm the lawn and is classified by the Biopesticide Division as a Low Toxicity lawn weed killer. Since it contains only naturally-occurring iron, FIESTA is safe for pets and humans once dried, making it the ideal alternative to chemical herbicides such as Killex that have been banned in several areas in the US and Canada. Test results [PDF] also show that FIESTA, unlike other herbicides, does not stain hard surfaces such as concrete, gravel, or wood at recommended application rates.
FIESTA is effective against a wide variety of common and difficult weeds including dandelions, English daisy, white clover, white English daisy, creeping buttercup, chickweed, dovefoot geranium, broadleaf plantain, narrowleaf plantain, and Canadian thistle. It is commonly used to treat turf areas such as athletic fields, golf courses, parks, right of ways, cemeteries, and non-crop areas.
FIESTA works more quickly than other common herbicides such as Killex, Duplosan, and 2,4-D, with visible results within 24 hours. It is rainfast within 3 hours, and unlike other herbicides, is effective at extraordinarily low temperatures, down to 40 °F, on all kinds of lawns and turf, including those containing fescue, Kentucky bluegrass, and perennial ryegrass.

Today more than ever people are concerned about the negative impact pesticides have on the environment. Pesticide regulations in North America are becoming more and more strict because of the residual effects left behind in our environment from toxic pesticides. The runoff from these chemicals can enter streams, ponds, or even our drinking water.
Studies show that toxic pesticides persist in our environment and build up over time increasing the level of their toxicity putting our health at risk and damaging our planet. The cleanup costs to our environment and the health care costs are all things that we need to consider when buying traditional chemical pesticides. Our health, the environment and the future of our planet are things that are invaluable.
